With its strong media relationships, Mower shared the Greentown Labs story with all of the local Boston media outlets: The BostonGlobe, BetaBoston, BostInno, The Boston Business Journal, Xconomy, WCVB Channel 5, WBUR News and more.
The positive response was remarkable. Once reporters visited the space, they instantly understood the appeal. They saw Greentown Labs’ member companies tackling the problem of urban farming; helping landfills harvest energy from trash; developing new manufacturing processes and models for wind turbines; making bike helmets more readily available, lowering the barrier to entry for bikeshare users while minimizing the need to drive vehicles. And this is just scratching the surface.
Fast forward to December 2014, and Greentown Labs now has more than 70 pieces of media coverage, 20 of which are full-feature articles, a large social media following and more than 50 member companies filling every corner of its 33,000 sq. ft. work space. What started as a group of four companies who simply wanted to split the cost of rent, evolved into a notable coworking and labs space that acts as a lesson in building a community and in creating a sustainable work environment.
Greentown Labs is now well-known throughout Boston and highly respected for the incredible work it’s doing to help its member companies solve the world’s biggest environmental and energy challenges.
